For the first time in 10 years, Contrails ! unveils some secret plans of the IF-Team.
How the aircraft systems were designed, what research was conducted by the builders, the La Pierre Skunk Works drawings which had remained confidential are finally offered to the visitors of Contrails !
During a brain storming session in the vicinity of Dijon, the IF-Team secured the key points of the layout of the MCR 4S panel in this confidential plan.
This document was a scrupulously followed during the fabrication of the instrument panel whose ergonomics helped many pilots getting accustomed to the aircraft within a few moments.
Contrary to popular belief the difficulty is not in opening a correctly designed cowl flap, but in keeping it closed.
Indeed the air pressure in the converging exit nozzle is greater than the external flow pressure, otherwise the cooling air...does not exit !
It was therefore necessary to develop a lightweight and easy to use control, but that locks firmly against flap opening.
The flap position feedback potentiometer is exposed to the elements through the slot in the fuselage.
The linear model proposed by the factory gets dirty or oxydizes easily.
The IF-Team opted for an IP67 sealed rotary potentiometer actuated by a rod.
The study of the cooling aerodynamics lasted several months.
To maintain confidentiality, a special codename was chosen for each preliminary project.
